Our San Diego based coin and bullion shop will buy coins and precious metals from basic collector coins to numismatic rarities, as well as a wide variety of gold and silver bullion. We understand that education and transparency are the fundamental components of building trust and a long-term relationship. We identify, grade, and determine the value of the entire collection. We explain what goes into determining value and most importantly how much we would be willing to pay.

Collector notes

Visiting a coin shop

A few notes before you walk into San Diego Coin & Bullion in San Diego, CA. These rotate daily. They are general collector etiquette from CDXList — not this shop’s house rules. When something is unclear, ask the person at the counter.

  1. If you feel rushed, you can pause

You are allowed to say you need a minute. You are allowed to pack up and think. You are not required to decide while someone is waiting behind you — step aside and let them go. A good shop would rather you be sure than sorry.

  2. A real look takes more than thirty seconds

Dates, mint marks, damage, weight, and whether something is collectible or melt all take time. Do not rush a careful dealer. Do not dump two hundred coins and ask for a number while you check email. Stay with the lot. Answer questions.

  3. This is a working shop, not a museum desk

They will talk coins. They will not give a free seminar on forty pieces while a line forms. Pick your best questions. Buy a book if you want to learn the series. A dealer who teaches a little is being generous with the clock.

  4. Bring identification on a larger visit

A license in the car does not help at the counter. If you might sell, buy something expensive, or move cash, bring ID in with you. It speeds things up and avoids an awkward pause after you already agreed.

  5. Decide how you want to be paid before the offer

If you are selling, know whether you need cash today, a check, or time to think. Changing the method after they have made a number can change the number. A clear “I would like a check if we agree” at the start saves a second conversation.
